Celebrating Excellence in Medical Affairs Across Australasia

The MAPA Medical Excellence Awards recognise outstanding individuals and teams who exemplify leadership, innovation, and collaboration across the Medical Affairs community in Australia and New Zealand.

 

These awards highlight excellence in science, strategy, patient impact, and teamwork - all fundamental to advancing the standards and reputation of our profession.

1. MSL Excellence Award (Individual)

 

 

Recognises a Medical Science Liaison who demonstrates exceptional scientific exchange, stakeholder engagement, and contribution to patient outcomes.

 

Nominees should demonstrate some or all of the following:

 

  • Outstanding scientific and clinical expertise

  • Strong partnerships with healthcare professionals

  • Impactful scientific or educational initiatives

  • Commitment to ethics and MAPA values

 

 

 

 

  

2. Early Career MSL Award (Individual)

 

 

Honours an MSL with fewer than three years’ experience who has demonstrated rapid professional growth and contribution to team success.

 

Ideally, nominees should demonstrate:

 

  • Fast-tracked mastery of core MSL skills

  • Proactive learning and mentorship engagement

  • Innovative communication or stakeholder approaches

  • Commitment to professional ethics and collaboration

 

 

 

 

  

3. People’s Choice Award (Individual)

 

(New for 2025)

 

 

Celebrates an individual who embodies teamwork, inclusivity, and a positive culture within Medical Affairs.

 

Nominees should be able demonstrate:

 

  • A supportive and collaborative spirit

  • Integrity, collegiality, and respect

  • Contribution to a strong, inclusive team environment

  • Consistent demonstration of MAPA’s values

 

 

(Peer-nominated award open to all individual MAPA members)

 

 

 

  

4. Excellence in Medical Affairs Award (Individual or Team)

 

 

Recognises exceptional achievement in advancing medical strategy, scientific credibility, or patient outcomes.

 

Nominations should highlight:

 

  • Tangible impact on medical strategy or outcomes

  • Cross-functional collaboration and leadership

  • Innovation in education or engagement

  • Alignment with MAPA’s mission of excellence and integrity

 

 

 

 

  

5. Patient & Community Impact Award (Team)

 

 

Honours teams that have improved patient or community outcomes through education, advocacy, or collaboration.

 

Submissions should show:

 

  • Co-design with patients or community organisations

  • Measurable impact on health literacy or care quality

  • Ethical and sustainable delivery

  • Advancement of Medical Affairs visibility in the community

 

 

 

 

 

6. Innovation in Medical Affairs Award (Team)

 

(New for 2025)

 

 

Recognises teams who have implemented novel, ethical, and compliant approaches that enhance Medical Affairs practice.

 

Nominations should have exhibited:

 

  • Creative or technology-enabled initiatives (e.g. AI, digital engagement)

  • Improvements in medical processes or outcomes

  • Balance of innovation with compliance and ethics

  • Potential for broader impact and sustainability
